Become A Vintage Jewelry Detective
 

Vintage jewelry is collectible, fun to wear, and often an important part of family history.  But, it can be challenging to determine the era, designer and authenticity of such pieces.  Students in this hands-on class will learn how to be become “jewelry detectives” by examining the materials, styles and construction of vintage pieces.  Students will learn the differences between vintage and modern jewelry, and how to spot fake reproductions.  Students are encouraged to bring their own jewelry pieces to study.

Note:  Students are recommended, but not required, to take “Collect and Identify Vintage Costume Jewelry” prior to class.

During this time the crust of the Earth formed and reformed several times according to the theory of plate tectonics; creating new continents, mountain ranges, and oceans. Review Earth’s changing climate, which included extremes such as its “snowball” and “thermal maximum” phases. Finally, examine the complex history of life on Earth including life’s origins, and later, its near disappearance in several mass extinctions.

Pioneer Cast Iron Cooking
 
Students will learn how pioneers cooked breads, full meals, and desserts on the hearth. Use of cast iron cookware, utensils and cooking techniques will be demonstrated. Over the course of three weeks, students will cook cornbread, cakes, and main dishes outside in the school courtyard. Students are required to bring a folding camp chair to the outdoor classroom.

Vietnamese Spring Rolls
 
A hands-on lesson on Goi cuon, Vietnamese spring roll or summer roll. Though a popular appetizer, it is a full meal usually dedicated for family gatherings and other festive occasions. The traditional spring roll consists of pork, shrimp, vegetables, and vermicelli wrapped in rice paper, but we will be creating vegetarian rolls. You’ll learn all the tips and tricks of wrapping and rolling spring rolls and their accompanying sauces.
