Explore this early photography technique to create original designs and images on paper and fabric. Cyanotypes result in a distinct blue image that appears when chemistry is exposed to sunlight. Students will use found objects and/or design cutouts for images that can be framed, made into note cards, used for collages, book arts and more. No camera or previous experience required. A materials list will be provided for students to purchase materials on their own.

Handmade Leather Bags
 

There's nothing more classic or stylish than a simple leather bag. Students will be introduced to leather craft through the creation of a bag. Instruction includes how to stitch the leather, cut straps, edge and burnish, and set rivets. Students will leave class with a completed bag, all materials provided.

Secrets of Shibori: Stitches & Knots

Shibori is a Japanese based technique of knotting, stitching, tying, folding, and wrapping to create patterns and images in fabric. Various dyes works harmoniously with shibori to show off these designs. Students will have the opportunity to create samples of various stitches and knots in cotton fabric and design a silk scarf based on these samples. A variety of dyeing options to be shared. A supply list will be provided with the links to recordings.

Three Simple Techniques for Printing on Fabric

Explore exciting creative possibilities for printing on fabric with three fun, simple techniques. You’ll have a chance to try silkscreen with an embroidery hoop, a dye resist technique using Kool-Aid, black tea, and Elmer’s glue, and printing patterns with vegetables. You’ll also learn how to make your own portable “print pad”, a soft surface on which to pin your fabric for printing.  A supply list will be provided with the links to recordings.
