Crochet Basics
 

Crochet, the act of pulling of yarn through other loops of yarn, can be used to make articles of clothing, housewares and works of art. Students will learn basic stitches and terminology as well as how to read a crochet pattern. Projects in class will include a basic scarf and making and joining granny squares. Materials for first project are included in the class fee. Students must provide their own yarn after the first project.

Handmade Paper
 

Learn to make paper pulp and produce sheets of paper that can be used for note cards, journals, jewelry, paintings and more. Cotton and recycled pulp will be used. Wet, messy, and creative fun!

Suminagashi Marbling
 

Suminagashi or Japanese Water Marbling is a colorful printing technique that makes use of special inks, a tray of water, and paper. Finished products can be used for stationary, book covers, gift wrapping and more. Students will explore different approaches to marbling and
how this technique works on different types of paper and fabrics. This technique is fun, relaxing and meditative. No experience required.

Participants will receive hands on instructions in upholstery and re-upholstery focusing on one project: a small chair or small ottoman. Each student will leave with techniques to safely use tools and skills to complete their very own DIY project. Tools will be provided.
