Acting Basics
 

Beginning actors will be exposed to several different performance styles which will improve their skills. This course uses theatre to encourage cooperative learning, team work, organization, and leadership skills. Theatre's forte is in the emotional arena, where participants are able to not only express emotion in a safe environment, but able to learn how to calibrate their emotional responses to various stimuli. The class allows all students the opportunity to perform on a regular basis.

Beginning Fiddle
 
Fiddle students will learn to play traditional tunes and read musical notation in group environment. A variety of fiddle styles will be introduced during the class. Learn proper instrument care, tuning, and playing technique. Students are required to bring their own fiddle to class and to purchase the book You Can Teach Yourself Fiddling by Craig Duncan.

Beginning Guitar
 
In this class students will learn the basics of playing guitar chords and reading notes in a variety of musical styles in a group environment. Easy Rhythm-Guitar Styles

Old Time Fiddle
 
Students will explore the basics of Old Time fiddling. We will learn traditional Tennessee and round peak fiddle tunes, focusing on those that are common in community jam sessions. Tunes will be taught by ear, and we will dissect the techniques used such as rhythmic bowing and chords. Prior fiddle or violin experience useful, but not necessary! Students must bring their own instrument.

Singing and Harmonizing Folk Songs
 
Folk music is meant to be passed down through generations of people whether you sing for a living or you sing in your living room. Students will learn traditional songs and how to share them.Whether students have prior musical experience or not, they will learn to pick out melodies and harmonies by ear. We will listen to old and new recordings of folk songs and ballads and break off into groups to sing them together. No materials are necessary but are cording device is encouraged. A guitar to accompany the songs with chords is also optional if desired.
