Imagery in Creative Writing

Imagery is the act of appealing to the senses: sight, touch, sound, taste, and smell. Just as a painter creates images from colors and shapes, writers use an array of descriptive words to accurately portray life on a page. Creative writers of every genre are called to practice, explore, and perfect the art of imagery through this course. Students will participate in writing exercises, read from powerful examples, and discuss the elements of what makes effective images in stories. Students will complete two finished pieces and be equipped with one of a writer’s most important skills: imagery. Open to all levels.
